New Federal law modifies alcohol testing requirements for commercial vessels, boat owners and operators. Details
The Department of Transportation (DOT) / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) establishes and enforces the acceptable standards for breath alcohol testing devices for use in certain types of alcohol testing programs and environments. The DOT / NHTSA has established the following two types of standards for breath alcohol testing:
1) Conforming Products List of Screening Devices To Measure Alcohol in Bodily Fluids. This classification is used for zero-tolerance testing and ideal screening for the presence of alcohol. Primary uses include schools, Coast Guard, recover homes, non-DOT regulated workplace testing and personal use. Click Here to View the CPL of Approved Screeners.
2) Conforming Products List for Instruments that Conform to the Model Specifications for Evidential Breath Testing Devices. This classification is used for evidential alcohol testing, such as when the results are going to be used in a court of law. The primary example is DOT-regulated workplace alcohol testing programs.
